COLOMBIA 2025

Following a successful recce tour to Colombia in May 2024, I'm delighted to be running two tours to Colombia in February 2025. The region is equatorial so they have consistent weather all year round, and February was selected as a time that it would be great to escape the dark, cold and wet and ride motorcycles in some incredible landscapes and the sunshine!

The tours are as follows:
TOUR 1: 14-24 February 2025
TOUR 2: 21 February-3 March 2025

It is also possible to combine the trips with a day off in the middle for those who wish to do a two week trip:

Please note that in order to book Both Tours, a space on both tours 1 and 2 must be available. This option will be removed if one of the trips gets booked up.

These are fly-ride motorcycle trips. This means you fly in and out of Medellin, Colombia, and the itineraries are as follows (Road and Trail % refers to the time taken and not the distance travelled):

      FAQ's

      Is it safe?
This is a question many people have asked me. I've been twice in 2023 and once in 2024 and had no problems at all. This is the UK Foreign Office travel advice. The tour stays only within the green areas marked.
I'd suggest you leave any fancy watches and jewellery at home, don't use your expensive smart phone on the street, only travel by Uber or a licenced taxi when in the city, and don't go exploring unknown neighbourhoods at night, on your own.
If you would like some extra peace of mind, Global Rescue offer a Security Package upgrade to their standard medical evacuation service.

Do I need to have off-road motorcycle experience?
Yes. You don't need to be an expert, but some experience of riding trails and understanding basic riding position and how a bike behaves on dirt roads is essential. That said, this trip is not extreme off road. It's riding low powered trail bikes on public roads. In and around the city the roads are paved.
Away from the city they are dirt roads, a bit like green lanes in the UK, but they are also used by cars, buses, trucks and horses. If you've never ridden on a trail before, then I'd suggest trying it before you travel. I can recommend a few places in the UK, and if there's enough interest, perhaps even arrange a pre-tour weekend for those that are interested.

      What's the weather like?
In Medellin it is always spring. 15-20C at night and 22-30C during the day. It has tropical rains which can be heavy, but tend to be brief and warm. Murillo is at an elevation of 2950m above sea level so will be cooler. I'd suggest UK summer riding gear (e.g. mesh clothing) with a waterproof layer just in case and something warmer for going up high. A suggested kit list will be provided prior to departure.

      Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. 100%. I wouldn't suggest you travel without it. Riding a motorcycle comes with it's own risks, much like it does at home. If you need to get out or get home urgently, then travel insurance that covers you for riding motorcycles on public roads (paved or unpaved) is essential.
If you require extra cover above your travel insurance, I can recommend checking out Global Rescue who offer an enhanced evacuation service. I've never had to use the service, but I take out the extra cover from them when travelling in remote locations, just for the days travelling.

Have you done the tour yourself?
I have done Tour 1 in 2024 and videos for each day are on the Peak Motorcycles Channel in this playlist. (Days 1-4 published already, I'm behind with my editing but the others will follow).
The English and Spanish speaking guide will be provided by Moto Ride Medellin, though I will come on the tour.
For Tour 2, there is an element of 'tour development', in that it's the first time it's been run. Your feedback on the riding, distances, accommodation, food, bikes etc. is welcome and will help to improve future tours.
Both weeks have been planned to allow people to do them with one week off work, to showcase some of the highlights of Colombia and to do this for a reasonable price.

      What are the bikes?
The bikes are the Colombian made AKT TTR200. They have six speed gearboxes, disc brakes and electric starters. They make about 16.5hp, but at 120kg dry, it's enough for the roads out in Colombia and while you won't be the fastest thing on the road, you will be close..

      What is the seat height?
The standard seat height is 800mm, which is 7cm/3in lower than a standard CRF250L. Lower seat options are available.

Could a non-riding partner come along?
Maybe. The bikes have rear foot pegs but due to the terrain and the 16.5hp bikes, it is not recommended to ride two-up.
There is possibly one space in the support vehicle on each tour if you have a non-riding partner who would like to come along. The vehicle will follow the same route as the bikes with the same stops unless the trail is too rough. They may get diverted if one of the riders needs some assistance, or if a ferry isn't running and there's only small boats for motorcycles, but otherwise we travel together. The vehicle has the snacks so will never be far away!
Please note that the driver may not speak English.

      How do I book?
A 25% deposit is required to secure a place with the balance due one month before the tour starts. You can request further information by clicking the following links:
